Bag-2-Bag: 32 Thousand Recycling Bins and CountingOctober 10, 2012 | Phil Rozenski
Hilex’s Bag-2-Bag Recycling team recently received a request from Colorado’s Adams County Government to help facilitate an office-wide Bag-2-Bag Recycling program. Because, like every Hilex employee, I hate to see our 100% recyclable products misused or littered, this kind of request truly makes my day.
If you are unfamiliar with the program, Bag-2-Bag Recycling is designed to ensure that plastic bags are directed to Hilex’s state-of-the-art recycling plant in North Vernon, Indiana where they are turned into clean new bags which can be recycled again and again. We call this “closing the loop,” and it’s a great way to keep bags out of landfills and in stores where they can be used by consumers. Recycling is a collaborative effort and Hilex is proud to have recycling partners like the Adams County Government use our collection bins to promote recycling and recycled-content bags.
In fact, through our many partners, we currently have more than 32,000 collection bins in 45 states and since the 2005 launch of the Bag-2-Bag Recycling program, we have processed more than 79 million pounds of plastic film. Our North Vernon facility is currently processing 22 million pounds of plastic annually!
Recycling is a positive trend that’s on the rise. According to a recent report, today 91% to 93% of the U.S. population has access to plastic bag recycling and we’re proud to be a part of that.
